Both California and Federal law give individuals with disabilities protection against discrimination in the workplace. The various laws ensure that disabled individuals in Ontario have an equal opportunity to get hired and obtain promotions in their choice of field. Disability laws also require employers to include reasonable accomodations in order that disabled people may properly perform their job.
California Employment for the Disabled
Both government and private employers are prohibited from discriminating against the disabled according to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). An employer in California may not consider someone's disability when they make the decision to hire that person, their job assignments or whether they may advance in their position.
Employers in Ontario must also provide any special equipment that the disabled person may require for performing duites, so long costs are reasonable. This is in addition to providing fair treatment. Employers are also prohibited under the act from discrimination based on a person's relation to someone with a disability or special needs.
